CANCER research is racing towards scientific success - thanks to 10 years of Race for Life.

Humble beginnings in 1994 meant Race for Life started specifically to raise awareness of women's cancers.

Remaining a women-only event has added to its huge popularity, encouraging ladies of all ages and fitness to take part.

Every penny goes to Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent organisation dedicated to research into the disease.

As well as its commitment to curing cancer by understanding the causes and investigating treatments and prevention, Cancer Research UK also aims to provide support to cancer patients and their families.

After 10 years, Race for Life has inspired more than 590,000 women to step out and help beat cancer with 130 events around the UK in 2003 alone.

Now organisers hope the 5km Hereford Race for Life will be an annual event, helping the one in three people liable to contract cancer to beat the disease and live life to the full.

And judging by the atmosphere and feeling of 'togetherness' at Hereford's Race for Life, many participants will agree 'same time, same place' next year!
