Hereford United's veteran striker Lee Mills admits to setting the same personal target of a goal every two games at each of his clubs - and there have quite a few down the years!

Mills, 34, has proved prolific at every level of English football during a much-travelled career, netting in the Premiership for Bradford City, Port Vale in the previously titled First Division and, latterly, at former Conference club Telford United.

His goalscoring feats have continued at Edgar Street, striking on his league debut against Farnborough and grabbing four more since, including United's solitary goal in their disappointing 3-1 Conference defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday.

Despite fierce competition for Hereford's two starting places up front, Mills is pleased with his early contribution but insists more is to come from his shooting boots.

Mills said: "I've probably had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus. And at all my previous clubs, I've always aimed at scoring one goal in every two games. I've set myself the same target here but it could be difficult this season because I know I'm not going to be playing every game.

"The club has a few good strikers and Adam (Stansfield) and David (Brown) started the season up front with me on the bench. I've started four or five times and I've been happy with my return in that respect. I'm aiming to get a long run in the team and determined to repay the manager's faith in bringing me here.

"The lads have been doing well and we were unbeaten in the last six games up to Dagenham. That was our fourth game in 12 days and we had extra time against Scunthorpe in the LDV Trophy. I did think the lads were a little bit tired towards the end of the game. Dagenham were up for it given the club's result against Hereford last season.

"We will be there or thereabouts in the top five come the end of the season, which will give us a guaranteed playoff spot. Then anything can happen, I never predicted Shrewsbury to have gone up from last year's playoffs."
