Hereford United will be seeking to get their Nationwide Conference promotion bid back on track with a win against Woking at Edgar Street on Saturday.

The Bulls desperately need to bounce back from their recent poor run which has seem them held to a goalless draw by Burton Albion in their last home game, followed by defeats on the road at Dagenham & Redbridge and Accrington Stanley.

"It's a tough match especially after our last three games and will be a real test of character," admitted Hereford's director of football Graham Turner.

Last season, a very negative Woking side came away from Edgar Street with a 1-0 success after an error from goalkeeper Matt Baker handed them their only real opening of the game.

Baker's successor in the Hereford goal, Jonathan Gould, has signed on for another month on loan from Preston North End. This will complete his maximum three-month loan spell and Turner acknowledged that it was "in the balance" whether the former Scotland goalkeeper would be with the club after his next month ended.

With no fresh injuries to report after Monday's defeat at Accrington, Turner is short of only two players from his squad as he prepares for Saturday's game.

Tamika Mkandawire completes his three-match suspension after being sent off against Burton and Jamie Pitman is still sidelined with a back injury sustained against Aldershot Town.

One of Turner's decisions as he ponders the line-up for Saturday's match will be whether to recall six-goal leading scorer Adam Stansfield, named earlier this week as the Conference's player of the month for September despite spending most of that time on the substitutes' bench.

Stansfield did, however, net three goals during the period and his two strikes at Leigh RMI were crucial in securing a 4-3 win for the Bulls, their last Conference success.

"Adam must wonder what he has to do to get a starting place but I think in the build-up play at Accrington on Monday both David Brown and Lee Mills did very well," said Turner. "Adam is more of a finisher and can improve on his combination play with other players."

Stansfield's award complements Turner's own manager of the month award for September.

The striker's award saw him achieve 68% of around 4,000 votes cast, placing him well ahead of second-placed Giuliano Grazioli, the Barnet striker.

"Adam is a very mobile striker and an old-fashioned poacher of goals," said Nationwide's spokesman Chris Hull.
