TOP scorer Steve Guinan is poised for a return to the starting line up for Hereford United's crunch clash against Stevenage at Edgar Street today (3pm).

The striker managed 25 minutes in the New Year's Day victory at Exeter City after replacing Danny Williams and will be eager to add to his 18 goal tally for the season.

Bulls manager Graham Turner is confident that both Williams, who has been nursing an ankle knock and Guinan will be fit to face Graham Westley's Stevenage side who lie 10th in the Conference, 14 points behind their hosts.

"Danny missed training but should be okay as is Steve Guinan who had half an hour," said Turner.

The United boss was pleased with the 1-0 victory at Exeter but admitted they had not performed at their best.

"Exeter is not the easiest place to go and while we defended well, particularly against their set pieces, we didn't play too well when we had the ball. In that respect it was pleasing that we got a win without being at our best."

After the game Hereford captain acknowledge it had not been a vintage display by his side. "It was probably our scrappiest performance of the season, but they're the ones you really need to win," he said.

"We put the work in, defended very well, and nicked the win."

James is gearing up for another testing match today and knows they cannot rest on their laurels.

"We've got to be prepared," he said. "We need to get another home win and we'll have to see what Stevenage offer."

Jamie Pitman is suspended for today's clash while fellow midfielder Ben Smith will miss the away game at Morecambe on January 17 after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season at St James' Park.
