THE Whitecross Townswomen's Guild held their December meeting and Christmas party on December 1, together with guests from City and Tupsley Guilds. After a splendid supper provided by members of the committee there followed a hand-made Christmas Card competition won by Maureen Beaven with June Timson second, a raffle was won by Doreen Bufton, and the best decorated Christmas hat by Rose Hart with Lilian Price of Tupsley Guild second. A short bingo session followed and a poem was read by the chairman who also reminded members of her soiree on December 14 at 2pm. The meeting then closed. The next one is due to be held on January 5 at The Holy Trinity Church Hall, Whitecross Road, at 7pm.

ON November 16, Captain Rudi Pisel of the Salvation Army gave a most interesting talk to Tupsley Guild about the history of the Christian Mission and the work it did and still continues to do throughout the world. Thanks were expressed by Edna Jury and the competition for a silver box was won by Mary Collins. A special meeting of the three Hereford Guilds was held on November 30 when Jenny Stratford the Executive Council Treasurer spoke about the Federation. The meeting was a lively one with many questions from members, and will, doubtless, be a basis for further discussion. There was also bring and buy stalls, the proceeds going to the Charles Renton Unit Fund in appreciation of the help given to some of the Guild members and over £200 was made for this good cause. The annual Christmas Dinner, held once again at the Bunch of Carrots, went off very pleasantly, with a visit from Father Christmas to round off the evening.
