WORK has begun on an outdoor learning area at Brampton Abbotts Primary School thanks to an £8,000 People's Places Award and a lot of fundraising by the PTFA.
The site had been an overgrown and rarely used wildlife area, but thanks to the enthusiastic help of parents, volunteers, staff and the children themselves, it has now been cleared, pathways laid, the willow tunnel structure put in place and oak-stump seating installed for the children.
When work is completed next year, the site, to be used in conjunction with the school's newly erected adventure playground, will also include picnic areas and garden paths offering walks through sensory and wildlife areas.
The aim is not only to provide the children with an outdoor learning environment, but also to offer the local community an area to enjoy and develop.
The People's Places award is supported by the Big Lottery Fund Green Spaces and Sustainable Communities programme. Work at the school is being organised by the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BCTV).
