SCOTSMAN Alasdair Haldenby celebrated hogmanay in style with his first golfing hole in one while playing in a four-ball friendly stableford with county sportsmen Colin Addison, Peter Isaac and Andy Morris.

And this was no normal ace, for it came on a par-four hole - the first ever at Burghill Valley's 18th - and was a match-winner to boot.

Alasdair, playing off 18 and as a guest of Andy Morris, was trailing in the New Year's Eve match but his hole in one over 272 yards provided six points to snatch victory for the Glaswegian now living in the county.

"After hitting my drive, I looked for the ball in all the bunkers where I thought it might be before going on to the green where it was in the hole - it called for a little celebration," he said.
