Newent's rector, Reverend Robert Simpson, is looking for a record response this year to Christian Aid Week, because of the tsunami disaster.
Christian Aid is one of charities co-ordinating the international earthquake appeal in the wake of the disaster.
It has long been supported by the congregations of St Mary's in Newent, St Peter's in Clifford's Mesne and Christ Church, in Gorsley.
Mr Simpson said: "We had open plate collections for the appeal on Sunday at all three churches and will again this Sunday.
"In May last year, we raised a lot of money for Christian Aid, over £4,000 in Newent and district and this year we hope to improve even on that."
