Tackling drugs in the Ledbury area will be the subject of an open meeting next week.

The venue for the Ledbury Area Drugs Forum event will be the Burgage Hall, Church Lane, on Tuesday (March 15) from 7.30pm.

One of the key areas of discussion will be the setting up of a parent education programme in the summer term.

Forum member Keith Francis said: "It is aimed mainly at parents with children in the top two years at primary school, to advise and reassure them."

He added drug awareness education was already well established at John Masefield High School and its deputy head, Ann Duff, will be on hand to talk about these arrangements.

The needle exchange at Ledbury Community Hospital is now up and running every Thursday.

Coun Francis said: "It's not being used much at the moment but it takes a long time for such things to be established. It is good news that this has happened and when the new pharmacy opens at the site, it will be a daily facility."

Coun Francis pointed out that less discarded needles have been found recently along the Town Trail and elsewhere, although there have been finds of silver foil linked to drug abuse.
