Bromyard Seconds did the double over their local rivals with a well-earned victory in this surprisingly well-mannered affair.

BROMYARD II 19PTS, UPTON II 5PTS

The experienced Bromyard pack were to the fore in this victory as they managed to stifle Upton's ball so their pacy backs could not hurt Bromyard.

The first 20 minutes were scoreless as both sides produced some stout defence. The gale force wind was a major factor and the match was played up the one side of the field.

Racking kicks from Bromyard's backs put them in an excellent field position and, following some good line-out work by Phil Lane, Bromyard rumbled up the field through veterans Mike Legge and Tony Gibbs. Swift ball from Ed Samuels at the base of a ruck allowed Nick Frost to dummy his way over for an unconverted score.

Five minutes before the break, more pressure from Bromyard's forwards forced Upton to concede a series of five-metre scrums. The ball was perfectly channelled by number 8 Rob Stephenson to allow Frost his second of the afternoon. Alex Clarke converted to give Bromyard a 12-point advantage at the turn round.

The second half started with a renewed vigour as Upton came flying at Bromyard. The tactic seemed to work as Upton's most impressive player, their fly half, crossed for a deserved unconverted score.

The rest of the half was all Bromyard attack as Paul Harris, classy veteran Gareth Boxall and Samuels took the attack to the visitors but their defence was outstanding.

The game was put out of Upton's reach when yet more pressure from Bromyard's scrum forced Upton's scrum-half to throw the ball to space where Frost pounced for his hat-trick. Again Clarke converted.

The last 10 minutes were played in the visitors' 22 but the final pass failed to go to hand.
