Song will fill St James Church, Colwall, during a special Palm Sunday event.

The Cradley Singers and Colwall Church Choir and Orchestra will combine their talents to perform Faur Requiem on Sunday, March 20, at 6.30pm.

Featuring soprano Jenny Marsden and bass Tim Cranmore, the event will also include works by Mozart, Greene, Stanford, Purcell and Bainton.

Singers spokesman Jean Clift said this was the first time the group had joined forces with Colwall's church choir.

"It was the idea of our accompanist, Mary Baron, who is also director of the Colwall choir," she explained, "I'm looking forward to it and St James is a really nice church to sing in."

She said the theme throughout the evening was deep contemplation, to mark the beginning of Holy Week.

The group has invited past members to sing with them at the event, to pay tribute to musical director and event conductor, Stefan Scot, who is leaving in the summer.

"There'll be about 35 to 40 of us, so it should sound good," said Mrs Clift.

Admission is free but donations to the Tanzanian Tengeru Hospital project, the group's chosen charity, are welcomed.

Rosemary Hooper, representative of the Leominster-based project, will give a talk about the hospital's progress during the interval.

Coffee and hot cross buns will be served during the evening.

The Cradley Singers will continue to mark Holy Week by performing Tenebrae, originally sung in monasteries, in Little Malvern Priory at 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 22. For details, call Jean Clift on 01886 821235.
