Clanfield 1 Ross Town 1
ROSS picked up a useful point from a lively and evenly-contested GLS Hellenic League Division 1 West encounter.
With regular goalkeepers Rich Newman and Jamie Halfpenny unavailable, youngster Tom Whittaker was given his chance and turned in a steady display, while Ryan Parker and Glenn Capewell were restored to the back three.
Spud Jenkins came near to opening the scoring for Ross after 16 minutes when he shot just over while Clanfield also went close through Dave Hamill but, with goalscoring opportunities at a premium, the game remained goalless at the interval.
Ross took the lead on 63 minutes when Simon Gwilliam staged an excellent counter-attack, beating his marker and delivering a fine cross which caused confusion in the home defence and saw Jenkins net from close range.
The visitors then went close to extending their lead when Parker's header from a Paul Burnham corner was blocked on the line.
Clanfield were always a threat on the break, however, and levelled when the impressive Matthew Allen's cross was turned in at the back post 12 minutes from time.
