Ledbury Town slumped to a humiliating West Midlands premier division defeat at Lye on Saturday despite the heroics of goalkeeper Craig Humphries.

LYE TOWN 7, LEDBURY TOWN 0

The hosts gave fourth-placed Ledbury a footballing lesson with energetic play, slick-passing and clinical finishing.

From the off Lye dominated but Humphries thwarted them time and time again with a superb display of athleticism and bravery in the Ledbury goal. But on 30 minutes Lye's total dominance paid off when Liam Morris scored at the second attempt after his initial shot was well-blocked by Humphries. Ledbury managed to reach half-time just 1-0 down due to some desperate defending and outstanding goalkeeping.

Lye did not ease up in the second half with both Be Store and Andy Burgess missing when well-placed early on. The lead was doubled when Andy Burgess burst into the box only to be felled by Nathan Haisley. Burgess himself stepped up to take the resultant penalty and his effort was superbly palmed away by Humphries. But Matt Blakemore pounced to smash home the loose ball.

Tony Arnold made it 3-0 when stabbing the ball home from six yards before disaster struck for Ledbury on 67 minutes when Craig Humphries was shown the red card after hauling Liam Morris down in the box.

Lee Clueit took up the goal-keeping duties but his first task was to pick the ball out of the net from an Andy Burgess penalty.

The humiliation was completed in the last 15 minutes when captain Matt Blakemore added his second and substitution brothers, Liam and Luke Newall, both scored for close range.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury entertain league leaders Tipton Town at New Street, kick off 2.45pm.

Town are also scheduled for a West Midlands premier division game on Tuesday evening when they visit Goodrich (7.45pm).
