Ledbury'S FA Vase dream came to an end at Didcot's Loop Meadow stadium in front of a bumper crowd of 347.

DIDCOT TOWN 2, LEDBURY TOWN 0

The first half saw an end-to- end encounter played at a frantic pace with Ledbury more than matching their higher-graded hosts.

Craig Humphries was tested early on by Stuart Beavon and full-back Glyn Jones blazed the ball over the bar from the edge of the area. With Nathan Haisley outstanding at the heart of the Ledbury defence, Didcot's chances were kept to a minimum.

On 20 minutes, Ledbury's Lee Hooper sent Robbie Colwell clear, but his powerful drive from 18 yards was smothered by Chris Webb in the Didcot goal. This spurred Ledbury on with Stuart Smith sending in a fizzing shot, which the keeper gathered at the second attempt.

Ledbury almost took the lead on 35 minutes when Stuart Hall's 25-yard free-kick was perfectly executed but Chris Webb somehow managed to push the ball around the post.

With the game goalless at half-time, Didcot started the second in determined fashion with Craig Humphries twice saving well and Gareth Davis hooking the ball off the line.

The pressure finally paid off when leading scorer Ian Concannon slotted home from six yards. Minutes later Didcot's Bradley Ward killed off Ledbury's hopes with a superb strike from 12 yards to send the Railwaymen into the next round.

Although beaten on the day, Ledbury did themselves and the town proud to reach the last 32 of such an illustrious competition.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town return to West Midlands premier division action at Heath Hayes, 2.45pm kick-off.
