Ledbury played their fifth away game in seven weeks and were beaten by a much heavier Old Yardleians pack in treacherous weather conditions.

OLD YARDLEIANS 31PTS, LEDBURY 5PTS

Following a rousing pre-match talk from coach Rob Collins and skipper Matt Williams, the first half belonged to Ledbury, but frustratingly, Ledbury once again failed to turn the positive pressure into points.

Chris Lewins, Ollie Kaye and Russ Putland all went close but good defence from Old Yardleians kept them at bay

After 30 minutes Old Yardleians scored a try, when their superior scrum drove Ledbury over the line, the try was converted, taking the scoreline to 7-0.

Ledbury continued to battle on and were rewarded when wing Will Green scored in the corner. The try went unconverted. The half time score was 7-5.

The second half belonged to Old Yardleians; their scrum was commanding and the back division dominant. Ledbury failed to reach the extra gear they needed to and hence conceded three tries in quick succession, two of which came from Old Yardleians' impressive inside centre.

Despite the result Ledbury can take some positives from the game, young winger Will Green played well and Aly Smith made an impressive first team return at full back. Ledbury go into this week's vital encounter with fellow strugglers Shipston in desperate need of a win.

Coach Rob Collins said: "Despite playing very well, the heavier pack of Old Yardleians, in those conditions, were always going to be dominant. We played some excellent phase rugby but must learn to turn the pressure into points."

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury return to Ross Road to play Shipston at 3pm. All support would be appreciated for this vital game.
