Ledbury RFC travelled to Bedworth in buoyant mood after encouraging recent performances, seeking their first Midlands Three West (South) win of the season.

BEDWORTH 28pts, LEDBURY 8pts

Ledbury were forced to make several changes to the team from last week's cup encounter, one being the involvement of experienced campaigner Martin Williams being added to bolster the pack.

Bedworth started well with their pack dominating the early encounters through driving line-outs disrupting the scrums and some barn-storming runs, particularly from their back row forwards.

After some good driving play from Bedworth and weak tackling from Ledbury, Bedworth got their reward with a score in the corner. This was quickly followed by a penalty taking the score to 8-0.

After stern words from skipper Matt Williams, Ledbury started to play. With some excellent play from Martin Williams and Bill Sparrey the ball was worked wide to Isiah Young who scored in the corner. The try went unconverted.

Ledbury continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a Barrett Price penalty.

The Bedworth flanker was yellow-carded just before half time and the score stood at 8-8.

Ledbury started the second half in the same style as they finished the first, but after a couple of minutes it all fell apart. Ledbury were completely dominated by the Bedworth pack allowing time and space for their backs to run in two more converted tries and two penalties, the final score being 28- 8.

Skipper Matt Williams was extremely disappointed with this performance.

He said: "With games against high-flying Barker Butts and Stratford, and local derby matches against Hereford and Droitwich upon us in the next month, attendance at training is crucial.

"Coach Rob Collins and I expect to have all players at our disposal for every game if Ledbury are to make their way up the league table."

Ledbury play Earlsdon at home tomorrow (Saturday) when a much improved performance is necessary and a win is vital. Kick-off is at 3pm and all support is welcome for this crucial game.
