THERE will be no time for boredom for members of the Whitecross Townswomen's Guild said the chairman announcing the forthcoming events for the summer period, including a trip to Symonds Yat, a cream tea at the home of Joan Edwards, an invitation from Tupsley Guild to a Strawberry Fayre, a Garden Party on July 15, a trip to the Cotswolds on August 3, and a combined Guilds' Luncheon at Hedley Lodge, Belmont on August 23. News of the Federation revealed that Mary Collins of Tupsley Guild had been elected chairman and the two delegates from Whitecross Guild were Margaret Somerfield and Mary Halls. The raffle was won by Jean Morris and the competition by Ann Harris with Doreen Morgan second. Finally, Mike Jones of the Longtown Mountain Rescue Team was introduced and regaled the members with tales of rescue in the Black Mountains and surrounding hills. He displayed the equipment needed by their 45 members who were all volunteers, from all walks of life and eight of them women. Mr Jones was thanked by Audrey Loynes. The next meeting will take place on July 6, at Eignbrook Parish Hall at 7pm.

AT Tupsley Townswomen's Guild's May meeting, there was a recipe evening when members brought samples of their favourite food and provided recipes for those who wished to make the items themselves. There was also an exhibition of handicrafts and the Guild scrapbooks were on show. The Federation cups won by the Tupsley skittles and quiz teams were shown to members and the teams congratulated. At the first June meeting a talk was given by Brenda Watkins entitled Brenda's Bloomers. Not her mistakes or yet her flowering plants but ladies underwear from 1863 to 1920. Gwenda Lowry gave the vote of thanks. Antoinette Perrot gave a full report of the Federation AGM, Mary Collins is the new chairman and Susan Layton the secretary, so Tupsley Guild is well represented on the committee
