AS the sun shone down on the Hereford District Schools Minors Championships, a number of young athletes enjoyed a memorable day with double victories.

David Watson of Hereford Cathedral dominated the sprints with victories in the 100 and 200 metres while school-mate Chloe Stanbridge added the discus title to her win in the 800m.

Anna Mulderg of St Mary's also carried off two titles, leaping to victory in the long jump and then pipping team-mate S Montieth by just 0.1 sec to take the 200m.

In the boys' 800m, G Miles had to work hard for his win over Whitecross' S French as did G Bee (Bishop's) in the 1,500m where he was pushed all the way by team-mate T Razvi.

In the field, C Probyn of Haywood launched the javelin a respectable 25.87m while team-mate John McLeod leapt 1.45m to win the high jump.

Sarah Bent (Cathedral) was an impressive winner of the girls' 100m, storming to victory in 13.7 secs, while Vanessa Brann was equally dominant in the 1,500m which she took in 5min 28sec.

Closest finish of the day was in the girls' high jump where Connie Ramsey (Cathedral) took the title on count-back from Alisia Philo (Bishop's) after both cleared 1.33m.
