IWOULD like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who helped keep essential NHS and social care services running during the recent snowy weather.

Despite awful conditions, the majority of staff managed to make it into work and ensure that no service users were left without essential services.

I know that staff feel they are “just doing their job” but many went over and above what was expected of them to make sure that services continued and that vulnerable members of our community were looked after.

This was not just an NHS and social care effort though. Many people from across the public services and the voluntary sector worked together to co-ordinate efforts.

The Red Cross and St John Ambulance Service helped with transporting patients discharged from hospital, and the district nurses managed to reach some of their patients only with the help of the Herefordshire 4x4 Response Network – a group of 4x4 vehicle drivers who gave their time voluntarily over several days.

It’s good to know that when the situation calls for it, community spirit is thriving in Herefordshire. Well done and thank you to everyone.
