HAVING seemingly survived a probe into his parliamentary expenses, Leominster MP Bill Wiggin now faces questions over council tax claims on his London home.

Mr Wiggin is making no comment on the latest allegations beyond confirming contact from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards requesting a response to the claims.

The issue arises out of an official complaint to the commissioner alleging Mr Wiggin’s £13,000 of London council tax and household bill claims between 2004-2006 were too much.

This week, Mr Wiggin publicly attacked Labour’s plans for higher council tax bands as a “bombshell primed to explode” after the General Election.

Earlier this year, Mr Wiggin’s expenses were given an all-clear by the Legg inquiry into MPs’ allowances and the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the MP would not face any related investigation.

n The groundbreaking fight of a would-be Leominster town councillor will almost certainly be decided by a court.

Herefordshire Council was told that the county returning officer cannot now legally reverse the decision made in June to stop independent candidate Jim Miller from contesting the South Ward by-election.

Mr Miller recently won a landmark ruling from the High Court allowing him to challenge his elimination from the by-election.
