STAFF at a city supermarket donned pink as their bid to raise £10,000 for a Herefordshire charity continues.

Workers at Sainsbury’s, Barton Yard, agreed to spend the year collecting funds for the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children who have suffered hair loss through cancer treatment.

They raised almost £3,000 in their launch week in July and have followed that up with a pink Saturday at the store, which included a disco, dancing bunny and a face painter.

Debbie Westwood, of Sainsbury’s Colleague Council, said staff and customers were very generous, with £700 raised through donations and purchases at the charity’s merchandising table.

The supermarket plans to run similar monthly fund-raisers throughout the year.

Also making an appearance was Sali Gray, organiser of this weekend’s Pink Car Rally, which will see a convoy of pinkcoloured cars travel from Hereford to Birmingham to raise funds for the trust.

Sali brought her pink motor along to the supermarket for the day, with many shoppers stopping to have their photo taken alongside it.

She is hoping people will wave the convoy off from the car park of Hereford County Hospital at 10.30am on Sunday and is currently looking for a pink coach so supporters of the rally can join the trip.

Anyone who may be able to help can contact Sali via her website at pink-carrally.
