COMMUNITY campaigners are celebrating after saving part of a border village’s past.
Knucklas Hill, a 16-acre site of Knucklas Castle, where it is said King Arthur wooed Guinevere, was bought at a recent auction along with two adjacent fields.
Campaigner Kevin Jones said: “It preserves the castle for the public and ensures that some land within the village can be used for the benefit of local people.”
The group will now set up a Community Land Trust to own and control the land near Knighton.
People will be able to buy shares in the trust and play their part in managing the site.
Mr Jones said that it was planned for the fields to be used for allotments and community growing projects and the woodland around the site would be developed as a nature reserve.
“This is a community project,” said Mr Jones.
“It is already generating lots of interest and some brilliant ideas.
“We’re inviting anyone interested to get in touch and to support our efforts by becoming shareholders or taking part in our activities.”
