HARVEST FESTIVAL & SUPPER – The Harvest Festival will take place at Aymestrey Church, October 10,(Friday) evening at 7pm. This will be followed by the harvest supper which will be in Aymestrey Village Hall. BAROCK FEASTE – In conjunction with the harvest, a concert of baroque music will be held on Saturday in Aymestrey Church at 7.30pm. The programme includes Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No4 and Bach’s Double Violin Concerto with the Kensington Sinfonia conducted by Martin Hall with Rebecca Sewell on violin. FUNGUS FORAY – As part of the Community Commons Project, Sheila Spence, a local field mycologist, is coming to Yatton Hill Common to lead a fungus foray. Sheila will describe the ecology and life-cycle of the British fungi and will lead a walk to discover which species of fungi can be found on the common at this time of year. Everyone is most welcome to come along. Those interested are asked to meet at 10am, at the Yatton Marsh entrance gate to the common, at the top of the Green Lane (grid ref SO434670), and the morning will be spent on Yatton Hill. It is advised to come equipped with sturdy footwear (strong shoes or wellington boots), warm clothes and waterproofs in case of a shower. Please note that, due to the potential disturbance to wildlife, people are asked not to bring dogs. This event is free and everyone is welcome. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE – The October meeting takes place next Tuesday when Mr David Hill will be giving an illustrated talk entitled ‘Fire and Ice’ about his travels in Iceland. The meeting starts at 7.15pm, and the competition will be for the prettiest small jug.
