The British Horse Society is seeking intrepid riders to embark on the ride of a lifetime.

The society is running another of its challenge rides in Wadi Rum, Jordan, from March 28 to April 5 2009. Anyone who registers for the BHS Jordan challenge ride before the end of October will receive a copy of The Arabian Horse – History, Mystery and Magic. The book is full of beautiful colour photographs which will whet your appetite for the adventures to come.

Participants will experience the beauty of Jordan on horseback while raising funds to help further the society’s welfare work.

The Bedouin Challenge takes riders approximately 125km across Wadi Rum, one of the most stunning areas of Jordan. The vastness of the landscape will envelop challengers as they ride through massive rock canyons and over the silky sand dunes, dining under the desert stars and sleeping in Bedouin tents.

Joanna Smith from Collingham, who took part in this year’s challenge, said: “This was a once in a lifetime experience. I have never felt so emotional as I did at the end!”

To take part all you need to do is pay a registration fee of £250 to BHS Welfare and raise a minimum of £2,000 eight weeks before the event. This may seem like a large amount but with a little effort it is achievable.

Alison Martin, another of this year’s challengers, said: “I found the whole experience a rewarding challenge and totally humbling too because so many people were unbelievably generous.”
