FOUNDED in 1922, Hereford Art and Craft Society is Herefordshire’s oldest arts society and for years its annual Open Summer Exhibition was a feature of the city’s civic life, an opportunity for local artists, amateur and professional, to show their work.
Nowadays, the society arranges for members to exhibit their work in many venues around the city during the year, and its main aim is to encourage the development of talent by providing these venues where members can see their work in public.
There is no selection process and all artists are welcome to join, membership cost is £10 a year and there is a life class.
This year, 43 members are exhibiting work of great variety in Hereford Museum and Art Gallery in Broad Street.
The show will be opened by society member Professor Allen Fisher on Friday, October 17, at 7pm. Alison Holmes, the managing director of Reprodux will choose a winning piece and present the artist with a run of postcards of their work. The exhibition will then run until November 19.
