THE Dyad Percussion Duo from Manchester will be getting Knighton Concert Society’s season off to a lively start on October 19.

Toby Kearney, one half of the duo, was the 2006 Percussion Finalist of the BBC Young Musician of the Year. Now at the Royal Northern College of Music, he has teamed up with Dan Jones and they are already having great performance successes, including appearances at the Wigmore Hall in London and St George’s, Bristol.

Their repertoire spans three centuries and includes music by the hugely popular Japanese composers Minoru Miki and Keiko Abe, alongside music by the marimba virtuoso Eric Sammut and music from America by Wayne Siegel, Steve Reich and Chick Corea.

The other four concerts in the concert society’s season cover a wide musical span. On Remembrance Sunday the society’s president, Graham Trew, baritone, with Igor Kennaway, piano, and friends will perform a sequence of words and music entitled None That Go Return Again, and the new year will see a return visit from Peter Rossiter, piano, a wind ensemble and the Hart Piano Trio.

All the Sunday afternoon concerts start at 3pm, with tickets available in advance from The Book Shop, Broad Street, Knighton, or from the chairman, Barbara Vessey, Westholme, Ffrydd Road, Knighton or the secretary, Margaret Davis, 1 Ystrad House, Church Road, Knighton.
