A HOMELESS thief has been in court after stealing from a shop in Hereford and attacking a man.

Steven Alan Daniels was convicted of one count of assault by beating and one count of theft from a shop, and he also admitted breaking bail conditions and failing to comply with the requirements of a community order when he appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster this month.

The court heard from the probation service and prosecutor Charlotte Morgan that the 33-year-old had stolen from Hereford’s City Service Station shop on December 27 last year.

He took £7.74 worth of alcohol, the magistrates were told at the hearing on April 12.

He also attacked another man in Hereford on March 3, and then broke a bail condition on April 11, which was in place to prevent him from contacting the victim.

Daniels, of no fixed address, was handed a conditional discharge, meaning he will not be sentenced for the offences unless he commits further offences within the next 12 months.

He was also prosecuted for failing to attend probation appointments as required by a community order handed to him by Hereford magistrates last May. He missed appointments on January 30 and March 27 and provided no suitable evidence to reasonably excuse his absence within the specified time limit.

For this offence, he was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £60. His community order will continue.
