A ROSS-on-Wye shop which has fallen into disrepair will be redeveloped to include 12 flats.
13 Market Place will be demolished and turned into a single shop with three two-bedroom flats, eight one-bedroom flats and one studio flat.
Herefordshire councillors gave permission for work to go ahead at a planning meeting last week.
Councillor John Jarvis said it was welcoming to see flats above a shop being utilised and that similar schemes across the county could rid Herefordshire of 50% of its housing problems.
Ross councillor Phillip Cutter said he hoped the project's developers would make a contribution towards the town's Wilton Sports Centre.
An application to build two two-bedroom flats on land at Henry Street, Ross, has also been approved.
A similar scheme was refused planning permission in October 2006.
