THE River Lugg will be cleaner thanks to a £300,000 scheme to stop waste water seeping in during bad weather.
Welsh Water is installing a storm overflow facility at Presteigne to prevent spillage from nearby waste water systems entering the river when water levels rise.
A number of screens fitted near the Tanyard Pumping Station will stop larger waste debris entering the river while the waste water system will be improved to further separate its contents from the Lugg during severe conditions.
It is part of a £1.2 billion investment from Welsh Water to improve its water and sewerage network by 2010.
