DOING their bit to keep boredom at bay during the school holidays, Herefordshire's National Trust properties have scheduled a great programme of events and activities.

At Berrington Hall and Lower Brockhampton, budding naturalists and artists will find plenty of inspiration.

Ugly Bug Safaris at both properties (August 20 at Berrington and on August 15 and 29 at Lower Brockhampton) offer the chance to go searching for creepy crawlies living in and around the water.

For those who are more creative, there's the chance to Take Part in Art on August 22 at Brockhampton and to Make Music at Berrington on August 14, when budding performers can have a go at creating their own instrument and then playing it. Starting at 2pm, there is no extra charge for taking part.

On Tuesday, August 21, Berrington's Mermaids and Pirates Day will make a welcome return, with children dressed as mermaids or pirates admitted free of charge, and there'll be more magic, merriment and fancy dress on Tuesday, August 28, at Warlocks and Fairies Day.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays through the holidays, Lower Brockhampton presents children's crafts such as weaving, print-making, charcoal drawing and designing your own coat of arms.

Normal admission prices apply at both properties, with extra charges for some activities.
