CONSULTATIONS are continuing on the development of a new Macmillan Renton Cancer Unit at Hereford County Hospital.
It has been agreed in principle that it should be built on the site of Kenwater Ward, not far from the existing Charles Renton Unit.
This hutted ward is scheduled to be demolished and its beds will be accommodated elsewhere in the main hospital.
Initially, the unit was being planned for the area near the diabetes unit at the hospital, which would have involved the demolition of two hutted wards.
Both Hereford County Hospital and Macmillan are preparing business cases for the new £3.5 million unit and building is expected to start in 2008.
People in Herefordshire and border areas have already raised well over £1million towards the cost.
