A HEREFORD football club is on the lookout for new players as they prepare for a game against Aston Villa.

Charity team Orchid Wanderers will take on an all-star Villa side in November with the proceeds going to the Orchid Cancer Appeal - as they do from all of Orchid's games.

Manager and ex-professional footballer Paul Knight said: "We are always looking for players - they don't have to be the greatest in the world, they just need to be able to give us their time."

Mr Knight, who used to play for Spurs, took over as manager last year, and is always busy using his contacts in and out of the game to find new ways to raise money.

"Hopefully, I've got some signed Villa and Manchester United shirts on the way, which we will raffle off, and current Villa player Carl Cort could be getting me some signed footballs.

"Hereford Leisure Centre is kindly allowing us to play our matches there, we are being sponsored by Floors 2 Go and the Herdsman pub in Hereford have been laying on food for us for after the games.

"We manage to raise around £70 a game, which is not bad but we could do better - although considering the team has only been going for a year, we have been very well supported.

"I have thought about joining a league but I would need 14 or 15 committed players for that, with the time to travel to games.

"For now, though, I'm just trying to get us some teams to play."

Anyone interested in playing for, or against, Orchid Wanderers can call Paul Knight on 07963 806982 or head to www.freewebs.com/charityteam The game against Aston Villa Allstars is on Sunday, November 4, 2pm kick-off, at Bromsgrove Rovers Football Club. There will also be a raffle and the chance to meet the legends of Aston Villa. The cost is £3 adults and £1 children.
