MADLEY primary school pupils led a community 'switch-on' event to turn a satellite dish pink as part of a month-long campaign.
During October, staff at BT’s international satellite station in Madley have been lighting up the 218-acre site’s largest, oldest satellite dish – known as Madley Aerial 1 – to support Breast Cancer Haven’s ‘Light Hereford Pink’ campaign as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A community event took place last Wednesday and around 100 local children, teachers and other residents, including the Mayor of Hereford Councillor Sharon Michael, attended a big ‘switch on’.
Madley Primary School pupils Elsa Sutton, aged eight, and Ted Prosser-Painting, aged seven, led the switch-on with Cat Whiteaway.
The spectacle of Madley Aerial 1 lit up pink can be seen from the nearby villages of Peterchurch and Kingstone, but Wednesday’s event was a rare opportunity for around 100 local people to glimpse Madley Aerial 1 up close.
