PUPILS have been taking part in a new digital initiative.

Nearly half of Herefordshire's primary schools now have teams of pupil Digital Leaders.

The initiative, devised and run by Herefordshire Learning and Achievement Service computing consultant, Mark Sanderson, is putting older primary school pupils in the driving seat when it comes to school-wide developments in the use of learning technology.

Teams of around six pupils in each school, led by dedicated computing coordinators are routinely teaching computing lessons in the school, leading staff meetings, running clubs and advising on online safety and procurement.

Termly pupil conferences are also held around the county, with this term's focus on how to use Google forms, and a range of other tools to devise and conduct surveys.

Based in Hereford Town Hall, the Hereford iStore and High Town the children spent the day devising, conducting and presenting the results of a series of surveys to discover what passers-by feel about city and county developments.

More than 90 percent of people asked said they are proud of their city.
