HOME players provided a clean sweep in section A of the Belmont Seniors Open with John Alexander's 39 points earning him first place, and the overall winner's prize from Ian Caves and Mike Ingram.

It was a similar tale in section B where Tony Ball, 35 points, led the way from Ray Ingram and Wref Digings.

The weather has hampered many competitions at Kington but the Juniors' Stanley Cup was completed with a win for Charlie Spence-White by just one shot.

The seniors medal was played in tough conditions at Bradnor Hill.

In a separate Friday night medals event, Marcel Veillet clinched top spot, just ahead of Phil Jones and Gareth Jones.

Meanwhile in the July medals, Bob Owen was overall champion with Josh Davies winning Division One.

Division Two was won by Rob Metcalfe with Division Three going to Chris Lane.

Brian Barnard won Burghill Valley Seniors July Medal by two shots from his nearest rival Brian Donaldson. In the second division, Tony Edwards took the top prize from Bill Bonham.

Kington's Mike Richards had the best return of the day in Herefordshire GC's Seniors Open with 40 points playing off a handicap of 13.

Herefordshire GC captain's team gained their first win over the professional's team since 2004 in the annual stableford competition at Wormsley, albeit by the narrow margin of 228 points to 225.

In a match away to Worcestershire GC, the men's team suffered a 4-2 defeat.

Home player Peter Layton showed some excellent form to win the Seniors Open at Sapey. Layton was also the best player aged 70 or over but was only permitted to win one prize so had to give best on that to D Fletcher (Gaudet Luce) L Cosnett (The Vale) was nearest the pin on the 11th hole while the longest drive prize went to S Howell (Shrewsbury).

Richard Brookes, with 39 pts, won the July Midweek Stableford competition by two points from Paul Broadrick and Brian Kendall. David Price won the Division 2 competition.

The George Griffiths Cup, a Greensome Stableford, was played in testing conditions at Ross.

With the white tees as far back as possible and little run on the ball due to very wet conditions underfoot, it was not surprising that a score of 39 points was enough for Nick Ellis and Patrick Addis to win on countback from Mike Talty and Mike Lawrence and W Darrell and Malcolm Sosna.

The club B team suffered a 4 - 1 defeat at the Forest of Dean club but a comprehensive success in the first match between the sides still ensured an overall 7-5 win.

The Ross C team entertained the Worcestershire but suffered the same fate as their B team counterparts with a 3 - 2 loss.

Duncan Smith of Hereford Municipal is set for a great day out at Woodhall Spa after qualifying from the regional finals at Hatchford Brook in Birmingham to go through to the NAPGC finals on August 25.

Smith carded 86-14-72 to finish joint third in Division 3 but there was disappointment for Tony Chambers and Mike Steele who missed out on qualifying from Division 4.

Kingstone High School Golf Society's top-ranked pupil Ben Kennedy found himself in the money after producing a stunning shot to claim the £100 nearest the pin prize at Brampton.

Kennedy also won a divisional prize in the accompanying medal prize but had to give best in the main competition to new member Sam Goodchild who was the overall winner on countback from Nigel Mosinski.

KEVIN Green fired an excellent nett 59 over 16 holes to win the 0-12 section of the Leominster July medal.

Green took the section by two shots from Edward Jones with the other sections going to Steve Fletcher and Clifford Radnor.
