A PERSON was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance following a crash today on the A40 south near Whitchurch

Fire crews from Whitchurch, Ross-on-Wye and Gloucester were called at 10.49am today to a crash involving one vehicle, which had ended up on its side. 

Two people were released by firefighters and one of them was airlifted to hospital. 

An ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at 10.45am to the A40 near to Murco Services, to reports of a single car RTC, which had overturned.

"An ambulance, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and an out of region resource attended (one from another service).

"There were two patients, both trapped and freed by the fire service, a process which took approximately 45 minutes.

"A woman in her 60s, a front seat passenger, was treated for chest, shoulder and rib injuries and airlifted to Frenchay Hospital, Bristol.

"The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was treated for a shoulder injury and an injury to his face. He was fully conscious and taken to Abergavenny Hospital by land ambulance."
