TRADITIONAL Herefordshire advice to ‘plant pears for your heirs’ has been firmly set in stone at one county pub.
Customers at the Yew Tree inn at Peterstow will be impressed to see a trio of perry pears, carved in stone by noted sculptor Max Nowell, when they attend this weekend’s Inaugural Yew Tree Cider Challenge and Festival.
Tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, cidermakers who have entered the pub’s competition will sup one another’s brands in order to determine the best. On Saturday and Sunday from midday, the Yew Tree will throw open the doors to anyone wanting to taste the ciders and perries on offer.
There will also be a tutored tasting session over the weekend, and profits from the sale of the competition entries will be given to the HOPE charity.
