WEST Mercia police are calling on the county's young artists to help them celebrate 40 years of policing in Herefordshire.

To mark the occasion and the forthcoming opening of their new station in Leominster, the police have asked youngsters to design posters promoting their work.

The poster competition is open to children between 3 and 11 years old, and topics include Police and Communities Together (PACT), anti-social behaviour and policing, past and present.

The posters can be in paints, pencils and other materials, but must be A4 or smaller. Entrants must write their name, age, address and contact number of the back, and should send their attempts to Eden Solutions, Flat 1, 329 Kings Acre Road, Hereford, HR4 0LS by August 25.

The prizes will be awarded in three age categories on September 8, and these and best entries will be displayed at the new police station.
