THE April meeting was opened by Libby Hughes who congratulated Sue Lloyd and Val Burden for doing well in the WI Bowls Tournament.

Members decided who would like to take part in the annual WI quiz.

The County Show and Old Radnor WI Spring Fayre were discussed before the speaker for the evening was introduced to members and a nice lot of guests as it was an open meeting.

Jenni Stewart Anderson brought along her wonderful selection of rag rugs and gave a demonstration how to make one. Members were given the chance to have a go, many remembering making them in the past.

Rag rug making was considered a craft for the poor many years ago, but it is fashionable at the present time.

It was a craft around in the Egyptian times and was probably introduced to Britain by the Anglo-Saxons.

At one stage a rug would go from house to house to be made, each person doing so much to do their bit.

Jenni's rugs may be seen in the new Marches Gallery in Kington.

A lovely supper followed, given by members. Val Burden gave the vote of thanks.

Competition for the evening a craft item for The County Show resulted in joint first to Vera Griffiths and Cicely Bayliss.
