A DOG owner is warning parents to be vigilant after his pet wandered into a building site and down an unprotected 10 foot hole.
Two-year-old springer spaniel Daisy was walking with her owner Matthew Quinn on Hampton Park last night when she wandered off and became trapped in the hole, just yards away from a children’s play park.
After searching for the dog it was only when Matthew heard its cries that he found Daisy at the bottom of a hole and in a foot of icy water.
“It’s not like her as she’s usually really good but I couldn’t find her anywhere,” said Matthew.
“I could hear crying from a nearby building site. There was a gap into the building site and an unprotected 10 foot hole.
“There is a children’s play park 20 yards from that so there should be more protection as it could have easily been a child instead of Daisy.”
Firefighters used an extendable ladder to rescue an uninjured Daisy to the relief of her owner.
“It could have easily been worse as she was trapped in a foot of icy water,” added Matthew.
“I have got children and I just thought it could have easily happened to a child in the daytime. A child could have easily wandered off and through the gap in the fence.”
