A MAN worried about getting a parking ticket in Hereford moved his car while nearly three times over the drink driving limit.

Samuel Vincent Rourke, 26, of Garway Hill, pleaded guilty to driving his Renault Combi Van while over the legal limit on July 31.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court on Thursday said that Rourke was seen in his vehicle which had no lights on by police officers at 4.10am.

"He continued onto St James Road before over shooting the junction with Green Street and continuing onto Harold Street where the vehicle was stopped," said Mr Jones.

"The police officer smelt alcohol and the defendant was finding it difficult to focus on the officer. Rourke said that he had drank three pints."

When breath tested Rourke blew 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the 35 limit.

George Cousins, mitigating said that Rourke had no intention on driving home from Hereford.

"He knew he would have a parking fine in the morning so decided to move it," said Mr Cousins.

Rourke was disqualified from driving for 24 months which can be reduced by six months on completion of a drink driving rehabilitation course.

He was also order to pay a £400 fine, £40 victim surcharge and £135 costs.
