RESIDENTS have met with developers to raise concerns about the safety of their Hereford housing estate which was built without street lights and a lack of pavements.

Fears have also been raised about the lack of off-street parking at the Meadow Park development in Holmer, which was built 18 months ago and contains 34 properties.

Complaints have been made through a residents’ survey which has been sent to the relevant planning and building authorities linked to the site.

“I carried out the survey as I think it is important that Herefordshire Council don’t agree again to anybody building too many houses on a too small plot again,” said resident Mike Andrews .

“There is one parking space per property so if you have two cars you have to park on the pavement as the parking spaces are all taken.

“I’m worried that there is poor access for an emergency vehicle needing to get through the estate. There is no lighting and a lack of pavement so parents with children are left walking on the road in the dark.”

Returned surveys also raised concerns about a lack of space for vehicles to turn while others claimed they had to wait a year for a phone line.

However, despite their concerns 76 per cent of respondents said they would still buy or rent a house on the site.

In response Adrian Cosh from housing developers Lioncourt Homes said: “The residents raise some important issues that will be key considerations for the company going forward that we will integrate in future schemes, wherever possible.

“However it is important to recognise that we have to comply with a range of planning policies and highway considerations in order to attain a planning consent and hence it is often a difficult balance for house builders to deliver absolutely what customers demand.

“We have now held a very constructive meeting with the residents of Meadow Park and we intend to provide as much help as we can to assist in their suggestions.”
