TOWN councils in Bromyard and Leominster will tonight be asked to back plans for an increase in council tax.

Ross-on-Wye residents have already been told they face a further rise in the next financial year after councillors voted in favour of raising the precept.

And Leominster Town Council's finance committee will recommend that a precept of £404,062 be requested from Herefordshire Council for 2016/17, which would result in a Band D charge of £114.60.

The precept for 2015/2016 was £275,819 - an equivalent band D charge of £79.34.

Last Monday’s finance committee heard the town council had more than doubled its responsibility in light of the reduction of services by Herefordshire Council.

Leominster Town Council's meeting will take place at 7pm tonight in the council offices on West Street.

Meanwhile in Bromyard, the Hereford Times understands Bromyard & Winslow Town Council's Finance and Properties Committee will suggest to full council next Monday that the town precept is raised by up to 16 per cent.

One of the reasons for the proposed increase is thought to be as a result of a reduction in funding from Herefordshire Council.
