A COUNTY student is embarking on the trip of a lifetime which will see her climb 18,000 feet to the base camp of Everest while at the same time raising money for a children’s charity.

University student Lissa O'Callaghan, from Hereford, is taking part in the expedition to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.

"It is the first time I have done anything like this and the trek will include eight days of non-stop walking up Everest," said Lissa.

"We begin our journey in Nepal and will spend three weeks trekking across the Himalayas.

"We will then fly to Kathmandu and then on to Lukla airport which is considered the Gateway to Mt Everest. From here we will trek our way to Everest Base Camp at Gorak Shep and beyond to Kala Platter, the highest point in our trek at just over 18,000feet!

"It will then take us six days to walk back down afterwards."

The third year Geography student at Exeter University who previously studied at Bishops School sixth form is taking part in the expedition with fellow pupils of a fundraising society.

She added: "At university we have got a raise and donate society (RAD) and through that I got involved in the fundraiser.

"There are 12 of us from the society taking part and I have got to get £2,895 together so I am doing everything I can to fundraise.

"So far I have contacted family and friends and have just arranged a coffee and cake morning at Morden Community Hall.

"All money raised by sponsoring me will go towards the charity."

"Please help me support this charity, by sponsoring me with a donation of as much or as little as you can.

"The more people that know about the charity, the greater their impact, so please spread the word!"
