FIREWORKS displays around the county went off with a bang last weekend.

An annual display organised by Hereford Round Table at the city's racecourse attracted more than 5,000 visitors on Saturday night.

The event, which saw Sunshine Radio and dames from The Courtyard entertain the crowd, raised around more than £8,000 for local charities.

William Jackson, chairman of Hereford Round Table, said: "It was our busiest and best fireworks in living memory.

"The Courtyard's dames were fantastic and entertained crowds all evening.

"We just want to thank the people of Herefordshire for supporting us. We raised, after expenses, in excess of £8,000.

"The atmosphere was fantastic, you could feel the buzz in the audience. It was just a fantastic event and means we will be able to help lots more Herefordshire charities."

On the same night, hundreds of people also packed on to Hereford’s Castle Green to see fireworks light up the former battle site.

A lantern procession by children from nearby St James Primary School also lit up the green ahead of the main event.

Children from the nearby St James Primary School also helped illuminate the green when they took part in a lantern procession.

Entertainment at Saturday's event was also on offer from fire performers and 2Faced Dance, with plenty of food and drink also available.
