WORK will start on April 16 to resurface a section of carriageway on the A49 north of Leominster with new quieter surfacing materials, along with improvements to the drainage system.

The work on a one and a half mile stretch of the A49 five miles north of Leominster - past National Trust property, Berrington Hall - will take 20 weeks to complete.

There will be minimal disruption to drivers during the first few weeks of the scheme as the drainage work will be carried out away from the main carriageway. However, for eight weeks starting in June, the northbound carriageway will be closed.

Diversion routes will be clearly signed during this time. Light vehicles will be directed from Leominster along the B4361 and B4362 to rejoin the A49 at Woofferton, south of Ludlow.

Large goods vehicles will be directed west from Leominster along the A44 to the A4110 and A4113 to Bromfield, north of Ludlow. Southbound traffic will continue to use the A49; there will be a 40mph speed limit in place for the safety of drivers and the workforce.
