AN open day will be held in May to celebrate the launch of an exciting new venture in Herefordshire.

The Barton Hill Centre is based on a working farm where people with additional learning needs can visit the countryside and work with animals and horticulture.

Housed in the village of Kentchurch, on the Welsh border, a key objective of the centre is access for all - with many wheelchair facilities available.

Staff will work closely with visitors to help them access activities that would usually be unavailable to them because of their additional needs or difficulties with mobility.

Proprietor Wendy Scudamore said: "It is great to be using our facilities and doing what I enjoy - enabling other people to benefit from the animals and to help care for them."

The open day will be held on Monday, May 28 between 11am and 4.30pm when the public can visit the centre and see what is on offer.

Admission is £2 for adults and £1 for children with proceeds going towards the Wheels to the Woods project - which aims to create access to unspoilt woodland for wheelchair users.
