AN outline planning application for 250 homes in Ross-on-Wye has been formally submitted to Herefordshire Council.

A public consultation was held last November for the proposed development at Hildersley Farm on the outskirts of Ross.

The outline application does not specify how many bedrooms the homes will have, but said it will include affordable housing, public open space and associated works.

The 11-hectare site site is currently greenfield land and includes a former school playing field.

The agent, RPS Planning and Development, has applied for permission on behalf of the Hildersley Farm Partnership.

The application said the public has been consulted and many attending the Larruperz Centre last year have made their feelings known over the pitch.

However, not all back the idea. From 44 feedback completed forms, 59 percent were against the housing scheme.

The main concern raised was the strain the new homes would put on local services, including doctors' surgeries and schools.

RPS said they had spoken with the Local Planning Authority about the possibility of providing a new doctor's surgery at the application site.

NHS England said they would not be supportive of this but would seek captial contributions towards the cost of upgrading existing local surgeries.

Comments can still be made on the planning application up until June 11.

If this application is approved, developers would then put in a reserved matters application but would have to consider the details in the outline.
