A DJ is bringing two new events to Hereford in a bid to liven up the city's calendar.

Sam Mitcham has lived between Ibiza and north England for the last ten years before recently returning home to Hereford.

He has decided to use his skills as a DJ, music producer and event promoter to bring two new ventures to the city.

With friend, Jimmy Dean, they have organised a sausage and cider festival for the August bank holiday weekend, and he has also introduced a regular dance night at The Venue in Gaol Street.

Mr Mitcham, 28, said: "Recently I moved back to Hereford and have been keen to inject some of my knowledge and experience back into the city- when it comes to night life and festivals- as I feel this city has definitely fallen by the wayside and desperately needs what most other cities now offer."

He ran the Tuesday night promotion at Privilege Superclub last summer in Ibiza and has played across Europe for international brands and festivals such as Global Gathering and Godskitchen.

The sausage and cider festival will take place from August 29 to 31 at the King George V playing fields in Hereford.

There will be live bands, local produce stalls, a large range of sausages and ciders and children's entertainment. Tickets are £5 and £6.50 from the festival's Facebook page.

Mr Mitcham's first dedicated dance night will launch at The Venue this Friday night, and he hopes it will become a monthly event.

He said: "We have this lost generation that want to hear good quality dance music, which they can't get at other venues in Hereford."

The Dance Academy launch party is this Friday from 10pm to 3am. In the main room there will be house, progressive, trance and classics. Cream resident DJ, John Kelly, will be doing a two hour set. Tickets are £5.
