A HEAD boy at one Hereford school is set to cross the pond to represent the UK at an event at Harvard University this summer.

Jan Chelmicki, head boy at Aylestone Business and Enterprise College, will be the country's representative at a leadership ambassador course at the prestigious North American university during this year's summer holidays.

Jan was nominated by the school's assistant head teacher and will be joining 100 other students aged between 14 and 17 from around the world.

The course will enable Jan to gain additional leadership skills and knowledge as well as UCAS points which will put him on the right path to achieving his dream of attending Oxford University to study medicine.

He also hopes to hold leadership courses to inspire younger people in Herefordshire to follow in his footsteps when he returns.

Jan needs to raise £2,000 to help pay for the course and cost of flights and has already been working hard to raise funds at school as well as through a part-time evening job.
